These three are sort of linked, in that they were all written at the same time as mini character studies of the Winchesters and all have the same sort of depressing feel about them, which I blame entirely on the fact that I am in the middle of exams and was revising literature of the First World War. That was a fun weekend!

Title: Crash and Burn
Author: Mariana O'Connor
Character: Sam
Rating: G
Disclaimer: Don't own 'em, won't do until my plans for world domination come into fruition.
Summary: Sam has to keep moving.
Note: this one probably fits the beginning of the series more than the end, but all really necessary is that it's set after the pilot.

He keeps moving, careening from one place to the next, always over correcting when he recovers himself. He stumbles onwards, always mobile, never still, barely avoiding the collisions.

He keeps an eye out and sidesteps the obstacles, carefully dodging the things, the thoughts, that get in his way.

But one day, he knows, he will not be quick enough. One of those barriers will stop him short and he will crash, the world – his world – falling in around him, before he burns, blazing in one final attempt to set it all right.

Sooner or later he will crash and he will burn and she will have been right.

Title: Unbreakable
Author: Mariana O'Connor
Character: Dean
Rating: G
Disclaimer:as above
Summary: Dean is always fixing things.

He puts them back together, picking up the pieces as they fall apart and gently he makes them whole again. Any crack he sees he mends – sometimes with only hope, not glue – but still he fixes them.

His dad crumbles gradually, falling apart slowly, quietly, but Dean holds him together, averts the avalanches that constantly threaten.

Sam shatters, sudden and loud and too fast for Dean to do anything but rebuild him and hope it works.

They fall apart and he puts them back together again, because that’s what he does, and so he cannot crack; he cannot shatter; he cannot crumble.

He remains steady, unbreakable – because he cannot be anything else.

Title: Hopeless
Author: Mariana O'Connor
Character: John
Rating: G
Disclaimer:as above
Summary: The quest is endless

Every step takes another breath but yet he seems no closer. When he began he saw the end nearby, shining brightly, but since then it feels like he’s been walking backwards because the finishing post is gone, vanished beyond the horizon, leaving only the never-ending journey to the unreachable conclusion.

It stretches before him, elongating with every passing day as he slips further into the dark, and he begins to believe that he will never reach that end point as his quest will last forever.

He had thought hope had died before – burnt to ash with the dreams that existed before that one brilliant, unattainable end, but now he knows differently. He knows that hope just not simply extinguish so quickly: it leaves you slowly and painfully until there is nothing left but shadow.

He knows that now, for he is hopeless, and the only option left is the cold hard reality of despair.
